What You Can Expect While Visiting FirstLight

FirstLight Health System has the visitor guidelines in place to protect patients, families, visitors and staff. As a component of Patient Rights, FirstLight’s visitation policy and procedures will be presented upon admission to all patients.

We believe your family, whatever it consists of, has a positive influence eon your recovery, comfort level and length of stay.


  • Parents and family members are welcome at all times and are not considered “visitors”.
  • Patients and visitors may be asked to wear a mask if they are feeling ill or displaying flu-like symptoms (coughing, fever, etc).
  • FirstLight Health System does not restrict, limit or otherwise deny visitation on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability.
  •  When a patient is unable to speak for him or herself or make decisions based on his or her beliefs and values, a support person (spouse, domestic partner, family member or friend), identified by the patient, will be designated to do so.
  • Visitation restrictions or limitations may occur for the following reasons:
  1. Court order limiting or restraining contact
  2. Behavior representing a direct risk or threat to the patient, hospital staff, or others in the immediate environment
  3. Behavior disruptive of the functioning of the patient care unit
  4. Reasonable limitations on the number of visitations at any one time
  5. Patient’s risk of infection by the visitor or visitor’s risk of infection by the patient
  6.  Extraordinary protections because of a pandemic or infectious disease outbreak
  7. Substance abuse treatment protocols requiring restricted visitation
  8. Patient’s need for privacy or rest by another individual in the patient’s shared room
  9. Patient preference for privacy
  • A patient or visitor grievance resolution process is available if it is felt that the patient’s  visitation rights have been violated. Please direct the issue to the RN caring for the patient or the charge nurse.

Workplace Violence

FirstLight Health System strives to promote a safe work environment, pledging zero tolerance against workplace violence.  We will provide continued education and implement policies and procedures to ensure the safety of our patients and staff.  Our team is committed to being aware and being responsible to potentially violent situations.
